Coastal MK II Digital Thermostat/Thermometer
Actual size
(1) Description
The Coastal MK II Digital Thermostat/Thermometer comprises a plastic housing that mounts in a stainless
steel mounting plate that measures is 3-5/8”w x 2-1/8”h. The front panel incorporates a three-digit red LED display with
five-button control panel. The display shows degrees and tenths of degrees, and can be set to work in either
Fahrenheit or Celsius. The Coastal MK II requires a 12v supply protected by a 2 amp fuse. Wiring connections are by
screw terminals at the rear of the unit. A temperature sensor probe is included, with a 10’ cable
(2) Location
The thermostat is designed to be mounted on a vertical surface, secured at the rear by a sliding bracket. Care
must be taken to ensure that the location chosen will not subject the panel or its components to splashing or running
water, steam, corrosive gasses, excessive vibration, or physical damage. Ideally the location will allow the 10’
thermostat sensor to be installed without being extended. If it is found necessary to extend the sensor cable, the
electrical joints should be soldered. When mounted in the stainless steel plate the thermostat requires a cut-out
measuring 2-7/8”w x 1-1/4h”, and a minimum depth requirement of 2-1/2”
(3) Temperature Sensor Probe
The temperature sensor is mounted in the refrigerator or freezer cabinet so that it senses the average air
temperature. It does not attach to the evaporator. It is best mounted at mid-height, on a wall or divider that does not
have any part of the evaporator mounted on it, and insulated from the wall to ensure that it senses air temperature
only.
(4) Operation
The Coastal MK II Digital Thermostat/Thermometer is set to work as either a refrigerator or freezer control with
a user-specified set point. Box temperature will be kept within two degrees (adjustable) of the set point, and probe
temperature is displayed continuously in degrees and tenths on the three-segment red LED display. A snowflake
symbol is illuminated to indicate when the compressor is operating. Full instructions, with details on how to adjust the
temperature set point, differential, temperature scale (Fahrenheit or Celsius), and alarms, are included with the
thermostat
(5) Emergency Operation if Temperature Sensor Probe Fails
If the Temperature Sensor Probe becomes either short circuit or open circuit, the Coastal MK II will
automatically operate on an emergency on-off routine according to the time settings entered by the operator. This is
set initially at 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off.
(6) Temperature Alarms
The Coastal MK II is equipped with a buzzer to sound an alarm if the temperature exceeds the set point by the
maximum and minimum values as entered by the operator.
